Musical Adaptive Systems

چکیده
Traditional Musical Computation Systems had to face the differences between the computational techniques and the characteristics of musical creation. Characteristics such as a high degree of subjectivity, a great irrational component, and a learning process based on the use of examples and environmental absorption, have made music difficult to be formalized through algorithmic methods or classical Artificial Intelligence methods such as Expert Systems.

IIR System Identification Using Improved Harmony Search Algorithm with Chaos
Due to the fact that the error surface of adaptive infinite impulse response (IIR) systems is generally nonlinear and multimodal, the conventional derivative based techniques fail when used in adaptive identification of such systems. In this case, global optimization techniques are required in order to avoid the local minima. Harmony search (HS), a musical inspired metaheuristic, is a recently ...
متن کاملBraahms: a novel adaptive musical interface based on users' cognitive state
We present a novel brain-computer interface (BCI) integrated with a musical instrument that adapts implicitly (with no extra effort from user) to users’ changing cognitive state during musical improvisation. Most previous musical BCI systems use either a mapping of brainwaves to create audio signals or use explicit brain signals to control some aspect of the music. Such systems do not take adva...
متن کاملModelling the Dynamics of Musical Engagement
This paper presents work in progress on the modelling of emergence in an intelligent music composition/performance system. A model is described which seeks to encourage such emergence by facilitating interaction between musician and system. A complex adaptive systems population of musical behaviours inhabits a landscape which in turn is shaped by a process of description and redescription of th...
متن کاملComplex Adaptive Music Systems in the breve Simulation Environment
We describe two sets of musical applications of the breve simulation system. The first adds musical events and interactions to a system of evolving, goal-directed swarms. The second extends 3d cellular automata to respond to musical input and to generate musical output. Although this paper will print in black and white in the proceedings, color versions of the figures, along with links to audio...
متن کاملImplicit Brain-Computer Interaction Applied to a Novel Adaptive Musical Interface
We present a novel brain-computer interface (BCI) integrated with a musical instrument that adapts passively to users’ changing cognitive state during musical improvisation. Traditionally, musical BCIs have been divided into camps: those that use some mapping of brainwaves to create audio signals; and those that use explicit brain signals to control some aspect of the music. Neither of these sy...
